Significant capacity upgrade Home > Significant capacity upgrade

Alongside our established expertise machining specialist shafts to 4 metres and large castings, new investment at C E Edwards is significantly enhancing capacity across the group.

Back in 2015 we brought at SACEM horizontal borer into our line up. 18 months later we added to this with a Morando vertical borer, further increasing our capabilities to machine the large castings which are at the centre of a significant part of our Partnership for Performance programme. This equipment has been complemented with the arrival of an ElgaMill HE4000S Ram mill with an 8-metre Bed and a Hartford HCMC 1892 vertical machining centre with a 2-metre x 1-metre Table. Both have automatic tool changers and have been installed at our C E Edwards site in Stoke on Trent

This latest investment marks a notable expansion of our operation. The management team recognises that staying at the forefront of partnership-led sub-contract engineering relies on commitment. We must keep our capabilities running ahead of the pack. The world of engineering is as competitive now as it has been for many years, if not more so. This pressure has seen major OEMs closing down peripheral (and in some cases core) in-house engineering capability to focus on R & D and project management with their customers. This move has put ever more pressure on suppliers. We must deliver to ever tighter specifications and, at the same time, offer wider capability scope.

Increased capacity enables us to work larger components, more efficiently

The value of partnerships

Partnership between multiple suppliers and OEMs is increasingly the norm. Partnership is key in the drive to deliver cost-effective efficiency throughout the engineering process.

Although our latest additions have only been fully operational for a few weeks, their arrival is paying dividends. Within weeks of their coming online, we are already seeing an encouraging forward order book.

Initial feedback from our existing customers is extremely encouraging. A positive start for our new machines. However, we recognise the importance of not resting on our laurels. We need to keep the work flowing and we are always ready to talk to new customers.

Whether you are looking for dedicated, high-quality sub-contract machining services or a more integrated partnership where we work with you to source castings or other primary components then machine and work them for delivery to you as finished units, we would welcome the opportunity to show you our capabilities.
