Following a period  of consolidation reflecting the challenging economic conditions, C E Edwards are now seeing significant growth in business with a growing order book and new contracts from major clients.

This growth has put the C E Edwards HR team on notice as additional work requires more staff on the shop floor – over 50% more enginering jobs. Great news for the engineering sector in the Midlands which has witnessed company closures and downsizing over recent months. Yet the C E Edwards team has been surprised how difficult it has been to fill the posts on offer. The issue was the skills base.

C E Edwards Managing Director Alan Hayes says:

“We have managed to find the people we need but where
we expected a flood of applications we have seen only just enough.
The issue is not people wanting jobs but people having the skills
we need. To be a successful engineering business in the UK in the
21st Century, quality and service are vital and it
isn’t possible to deliver these without the best staff.

We are pleased that we have found the skills we need but the
modest response to our recruitment may indicate deeper
problems to come for quality engineering in the UK.”
