As first announced before Christmas, C E Edwards’s latest purchase sees the company bound into 2014 to take up an almost unrivalled position within the sector.
The addition of the £350,000 Sacem MSMG-125 horizontal boring and milling machine to the firm’s already extensive range of equipment places C E Edwards and sister company Denholm Rees & O’Donnell among just a tiny handful of sub-contract engineering companies in the UK with this technology at their disposal.
Greatest-ever capacity
Boasting a 1.6m x 2.0m table, the Sacem MSMG-125 is the group’s largest-ever horizontal boring machine, offering an unmatched capacity. Here are some key specifications:
- 6 Axis CNC- Heidenhain TNC 430 Control
- Table: 1600mm x 2000mm – 20,000KG
- X – 5000mm
- Y – 2000mm
- Z – 800mm
- W – 1500mm
- B – 360 ° in 0.001 increments
- U – 125mm
- Spindle Ø125mm
With positive indicators in the market, and a strong level of interest from existing clients, the group felt the time was right for such a substantial investment, and the team at C E Edwards’s Stoke on Trent base has been preparing for the anticipated increase in work volume.
Leading technology
The borer, which uses up-to-the-minute 6-axis CNC technology with a Heidenhain TNC 430 system, combines size and power with state-of-the-art accuracy and control, making it the ideal solution to wide-ranging requirements. It has now been installed on site in Stoke and is currently being commissioned, with production expected from early April.
2 D’Andrea U Tronic Boring And Facing Heads offer from Ø 25 to Ø1250mm with a range 160 to 200mm. Check out this video:
Bespoke Angled Heads
The borer is also equipped with two custom manufactured Henninger Angled Heads.
The largest with a 50 international spindle can access and machine a 150mm bore.
The smallest with a 40 international spindle can access and machine a 100mm bore.
The heads offer highly specialised precision machining capability suited to the requirements of a range of technical sectors, including Oil and Gas – split pump cases and valve bodies.
We will post more details and images when the heads are installed in the next few weeks
Investment for the future
This market-leading acquisition is part of the continuing policy by Denholm Rees & O’Donnell and C E Edwards to invest in world-class manufacturing, plants and equipment to completely satisfy clients’ current needs and stay one step ahead as they evolve in the future.
