With positive indicators in the market, and an encouraging level of interest from existing clients, the management team at C E Edwards felt towards the end of last year that the time was right for making a substantial investment in the future. The company is delighted that continuing improvement in economic conditions and their major new equipment acquisitions – including the addition of the group’s largest-ever horizontal boring machine to its already extensive range of equipment – has spearheaded the realisation of the anticipated increase in work volume.

Planning for the future

It is an integral part of the ethos at C E Edwards – and at sister company Denholm Rees & O’Donnell – that clients’ evolving needs are predicted and prepared for so that changes in demand never affect the speed, efficiency and extremely high standard of the work carried out. With this in mind, the team has been working for some time on plans for opening a double shift at the Stoke site, allowing a dramatic increase in production to be achieved without disruption.

Expanding the team

As part of this commitment to ensuring it stays one step ahead of clients’ growing requirements, the company is also continuing its recent programme of recruitment.

In addition to its established apprenticeship scheme, and the appointment of two machine operators earlier in the year to work on both conventional tools and the new CNC horizontal borer, C E Edwards is looking to take on further skilled machine operators, again for both CNC and manual roles, on the day and night shifts with enhanced premiums for night shift working.

The company is also keen to secure the services of a time-served sub-contract production engineer. They should be highly skilled in production planning and supervision, customer contact and quotation, and be computer literate.

These will be valuable additions to the team as it keeps moving forward, maintaining the highest standards of production and service and a greater capacity than ever before.
